General Description

An Altus partbook from a set of five volumes, each consisting of the prints RISM 1544/12 and O259. The DATB books have manuscript additions, copied by Basilius Amerbach (1533-91), son of the humanist Bonifacius Amerbach. Copied in Basel. Acquired by present library from Amerbach estate c. 1661.

5 paper partbooks, each consisting of the prints RISM 1544/12 and O259, with manuscript additions in DATB books (D-i + 71 [prints] + 16 [manuscript] folios, A-i + 74 + 16, T-i + 86 + 16, B-i + 72 + 16), 155 x 200.

(No manuscript music in Q book, not taken into further account here). Modern pencil foliation, 1-16, in each manuscript section. Original parchment covers taken from liturgical manuscript; outer sides dyed black. Copied by Basilius Amerbach (see below), who also wrote portions of BasU F.IX.32-5 and BasU F.X.22-4 (KmetzH). Staff height 13. No initials or decoration. Watermarks: (1) resembles Briquet #1396; (2) coat of arms of city of Basel (not in Briquet).

Ca. 1547 (KmetzH). Copied in Basel. Owned by Basilius Amerbach (1533-91), son of the humanist Bonifacius Amerbach. Acquired by present library from Amerbach estate ca. 1661.
