General Description

Original covers of parchment cut from non-musical manuscript. Copied by Georg Furtter (inscription at beginning: "Anno 1583 des 27 Febr angefang und des 13 Martii vollendet. Georg Furtter Tenorist."), whose activity as a singer in the court chapel of Georg Friedrich, Margrave of Ansbach-Brandenburg, is documented in chapel registers (see SchmiMH). Copied in Königsberg, while court chapel of Georg Friedrich, Margrave of Ansbach-Brandenburg (1543-1603) was in temporary residence there. Manuscript brought to Ansbach when Margrave returned there in 1586. Later transferred to Staatliche Bibliothek; reported missing as of 1982.

32 paper folios, size unknown (probably large 2°). Modern pencil foliation, 1-32. Ff. 24-32' have blank staves only. Original covers of parchment cut from non-musical manuscript. Copied by Georg Furtter (inscription at beginning), whose activity as a singer in the court chapel of Georg Friedrich, Margrave of Ansbach-Brandenburg, is documented in chapel registers (see SchmiMH). A few inked calligraphic initials.

inside front cover in pencil is written "Passio secundum Matth. von Johann Walther"; another (19th century?) hand has added "Wahrscheinlich von Jakob Meilandus Kapellmeister Georg Friedrichs Markgrafen zu Ansbach, in Musik gesetzt. Von ihm ist auch um diese Zeit das Psalterium Lutheri componirt worden - s[iehe] Gerbert Tonkünstlerlexicon".
