General Description

Composite of 40 printed tracts, probably copied in Zwickau. Contains a single piece of polyphony (item. 27a), a polemic against Martin Luther's opponents, and particularly Hieronymus (Jerome) Emser, in score. Emser died in Dresden in 1527.

Bound in an anthology from Stephan Roth's library. Copied by Stephan Roth. Bequeathed by Roth to Zwickau Ratsschulbibliothek in 1546.

Collection of printed and manuscript religious tracts, with polyphony: 1 German piece (polemic against Martin Luther)

Composite of 40 printed tracts, 207 x 157. 28 paper folios of manuscript material now bound between printed tracts #27 and #28. No foliation or pagination. Original covers of white leather and wood; brass/leather clasps.

Recto and verso of first manuscript folio contain text for "Martinus ist nit geschwiegen"; music for the piece appears at bottom of verso of first manuscript folio, in white mensural notation, copied by Stephan Roth (see below). No initials or decoration. No watermark visible on folio with music.

Second quarter of 16th century. Probably copied in Zwickau. Owned by Stephan Roth (1492-1546), rector of Latin school at Zwickau 1517-20, city scribe of Zwickau 1526-46. Bequeathed by Roth to Zwickau Ratsschulbibliothek in 1546.
