RISM Description

235 folios in total plus 2 18th century paper flyleaves. On flyleaf; 'Psalterium cum Hymnario secundum ordinis B. Dominici'. Modern foliation. 4-5 4-line staves per page. 18th century binding, brown leather with gold stamping.

RISM B/IV 3: 14./15.

[Translation] 235 parchment sheets + 2 each of flyleaves and endpapers (paper, 18th century), 155 x 115 mm of modern pencil foliation f. 1-235 and original guidewords. Each page has four, and from f. 222 five, red four-line systems with square notation (with very few mensural elements). - Cover: 18th Century; brown leather with gold lettering.

With the exception of the addenda of the 15th Century, this is a complete and beautifully illuminated manuscript, probably from the late 14th or early 15th Century. It has 18th-century covers, and the inscription on the flyeaf, 'Psalterium cum Hymnario secundum ordinis B. Dominici', which means (see also f. 210) that it originates most probably from an Italian monastery.

Contents: f. 1-141 psalter (mostly text only); Hymnary f. 141-185, f. 185-189 Psalm settings f. 189v-191 Benedicamus collection f. 191v-215 psalm and lesson notes; f. 215v sequences-221v, f. 221v (bottom) -229 addenda of the 15th century: an index with musical incipits f. 230-235 and calendar (in the hand of the main corpus).
