Chamaterò [H.C.]-1, Freddi-5, Nasco-1, (C. Porta)-94, anon-2
i + 106 + i paper folios, 505 x 368 (ff. [95-100] measure 474 x 370; ff. [101-104] measure 430 x 290). Composite of two separate manuscripts bound together in 17th century: Part I = new ff. a-b + 1-94; Part II = new ff. [95-104]. Some folios seriously damaged by ink corrosion, with loss of some music. Part I has modern pencil foliation, a-b + 1-94; Part II has original ink foliation, 1-7 (first folio and last two folios not numbered). Rebound in modern covers of brown boards. Original index of Part I on ff. a'-b lists pieces by liturgical feast.
Voice parts bearing cantus firmus usually copied in square chant notation; other music in white mensural notation. Part I copied by one main scribe (who also wrote portions of TrevBC 10, 11b, 19, and 22) and one additional scribe (who also wrote portions of TrevBC 7, 8, 9, 11b, and 22). Part II copied mostly by Francesco Morgula, who also wrote several other manuscripts in this library, none of which contains repertory within scope of present catalogue; last piece is later addition by a different hand. Staff height 27-8.
Part I has inked calligraphic initials; Part II has small plain inked initials. Watermarks in Part I: (1) anchor in circle surmounted by six-pointed star, with initials "N C" (not in Briquet); (2) generally resembles Briquet #3401 (ff. a-b only). Watermarks in Part II: (1) generally resembles Briquet #8391; (2) fleur-de-lis in circle surmounted by crown (not in Briquet).
Part I: ca. 1560 (based on dates found in collateral manuscripts); Part II: ca. 1615-26. Copied in Treviso, for use by cathedral choir.
