General Note

This mass notoriously omits the "Et in spiritum sanctum" from the Credo - but "In ToleBC 9, the scribe has managed to fit the entire Credo text to the extant music, but only by hacking up Josquin’s setting. In all voices, single notes have frequently been divided into two pitches of half their value to accommodate extra syllables. This is done, of course, at the expense of coherent text declamation. As such, ToleBC 9 is the exception that proves the rule: The lengths to which the scribe must go to make the text fit demonstrate that Josquin certainly did not intend for the entire Credo text to be sung to the 180 measures of music that survive in 15 sources." (Jesse Rodin, 'Finishing Josquin’s “Unfinished” Mass: A Case of Stylistic Imitation in the Cappella Sistina')
