General Description

A Discantus partbook of a set originally of five or six volumes. Each partbook is a composite of several originally separate fascicles later bound together. Possibly copied by Erasmus Zollner, cantor at Gymnasium Poeticum in Regensburg during 1570's (LechnerW). Copied in Regensburg, probably for use by choir of Gymnasium Poeticum in local evangelical services.

4 paper partbooks of an original 5 or 6 (D-158 folios, A-161, T-153, Q-62), 147 x 209. Each partbook is composite of several originally separate fascicles later bound together. Some folios damaged by ink corrosion. No foliation or pagination. Original ink numbering of pieces, 8 + 1-22 (first 27 Magnificats unnumbered). Original covers of parchment over cardboard, with white leather spine and leather ties; paper slip pasted to front cover of D book bears inscription: "Magnificat omnium tonorum / sex, quinque et quatuor vocum / No. 18." No index.

Possibly copied by Erasmus Zollner, cantor at Gymnasium Poeticum in Regensburg during 1570's (LechnerW); see general index for other manuscripts copied by the same scribe. Staff height 20. Painted and inked Gothic initials in black, red, and blue; headings and text incipits in red ink. Edges of folios colored blue-green. Watermark is coat of arms of city of Regensburg (resembles Briquet #1142-3).

1568-78 (dates in manuscript). Copied in Regensburg, probably for use by choir of Gymnasium Poeticum in local evangelical services.
