General Description

A colllection of music for Holy Week, including Corteccia's complete responsories. Copied by a single scribe, except for falsobordone psalms, which are later additions in a different hand. Probably copied in Pistoia, for use by cathedral choir.

iii + i + 131 + iii paper folios, 475 x 365. One gathering apparently lost from beginning at early date; replaced by single bifolio (= new pp. 1-4). Modern pencil pagination, A-B + 1-262; original ink foliation on upper right rectos, 1-11 (= new pp. 1-21); modern ink foliation on lower left versos, 1-22 (= new pp. 106-148) and 1-9 (= new pp. 174-190). Pp. 252-261 have blank staves only. Rebound in covers of cream-colored parchment over cardboard; several folios in second and third gatherings now bound in incorrect sequence. No index. Copied by a single scribe, except for falsobordone psalms, which are later additions in a different hand. Staff height 25. Inked calligraphic initials. Watermarks in main body of manuscript resemble Briquet #208, #4833, and #4844 (Crawford); watermark on original flyleaf (grape cluster with initials "O C A") not in Briquet. All music is for Holy Week.

Late 16th or early 17th century (FabbriU). Probably copied in Pistoia, for use by cathedral choir.

Contents: Change "33 motets" to "32 motets"; change total number of pieces from "56" to "55 + 1 duplicate = 56."

Composers: Change "(Corteccia)-31" to "(Corteccia)-30"; change "(Morales)-1" to "(Morales)-6"; change "anon-13" to "anon-8."

Physical: Pp. 252-262 have blank staves only.
