General Description

An Altus partbook, forming manuscript addition at end of collection of 10 printed altus partbooks (= Rés. Mus. Vmd. 22-31). Copied by a single scribe. Presumably copied in northern Italy. (A companion volume of printed cantus partbooks, but with only 8 prints and lacking the manuscript additions, is in the Harding Collection of the Bodleian Library, currently without shelfmark.)

1 paper partbook (A-33 + iii folios), 104 x 155, forming manuscript addition at end of collection of 10 printed altus partbooks (= Rés. Mus. Vmd. 22-31). No foliation or pagination; original numbering of pieces, 1-25. Ff. [25-33'] have blank staves only, except for some musical scribblings on f. [25] and f. [28]. Original covers of brown leather over boards, tooled in gold with ornamental borders, fleurs-de-lis, and inscription "ALTUS." No index. Copied by a single scribe. Staff height 9. Inked calligraphic initials. Only portions of watermark visible: anchor in circle(?), with fleur-de-lis.

First half of 16th century (ca. 1530-40?). Presumably copied in northern Italy.
