General Description

A Quintus (Superius) partbook from a set of five volumes. Four sections: (1) 23 In nomines for 4 voices, numbered 1-24 (#9 = #14); (2) 40 In nomines for 5 voices, numbered 1-40; ; (3) 9 In nomines for 5 voices, numbered 1-9 (two also copied in section 2); (4) 10 anthems, without piece numbers. Main scribe (sections 1-2) possibly 'Jo: Evelyn' (or 'Luelyn'?), named on f. 2 of T; section 3 copied by a second scribe, on different paper. Anthems (section 4) are slightly later additions by a third scribe, possibly William Heyther or Richard Nicholson; Sexta vox for three of these anthems copied by same scribe in OxfBMS e.381. Most verso folios blank. Copied in England. The original owner was apparently John Evelyn or Luelyn. Later owned by William Heyther (d. 1627), gentleman of the Chapel Royal and founder of the Professorship of Music at Oxford University. Donated to Oxford University Music School in 1626; passed to Bodleian Library in 1885.

Original covers of white parchment; remnants of green tie strings. No index. Four sections: (1) 23 In nomines for 4 voices, numbered 1-24 (#9 = #14); (2) 40 In nomines for 5 voices, numbered 1-40;

(3) 9 In nomines for 5 voices, numbered 1-9 (two also copied in section 2);

(4) 10 anthems, without piece numbers.

Main scribe (sections 1-2) possibly "Jo: Evelyn" (or "Luelyn"?), named on f. 2 of T; section 3 copied by a second scribe.
