General Description

Copied by Friedrich Lindner, who also wrote BerlDS 40023, NurGN 8820B, NurGN 8820Q, NurLA 28, NurLA 33, and other manuscripts not within scope of this catalogue (see RubIC and ButlerLM for discussion of complex). Variant script on some folios possibly a different form of Lindner's hand, or may be work of second, unidentified scribe (ButlerLM). Magnificat at end of manuscript incorporates several German sacred pieces for Christmas. Copied in Nuremberg, for use at the Church of St. Egidien. Commissioned by Nuremberg city council; prepared under direction of Friedrich Lindner (ca. 1542-1597), cantor at St. Egidien, and Hieronymus Paumgartner, Jr., council administrator for church affairs. Moved in 17th century to library of Jacob Fenitzer, a Nuremberg cutler; later housed in Lorenzkirche. Transferred at an unknown time to Nuremberg Stadtbibliothek, then to Landeskirchliches Archiv.
