General Description

Copied by Friedrich Lindner, who also wrote BerlDS 40023, NurGN 8820B, NurLA 28, NurLA 33 and NurLA 224 (see RubIC and ButlerLM for discussion of complex). Variant script on ff. 173'-189 possibly a different form of Lindner's hand, or may be work of second, unidentified scribe (ButlerLM). Copied in Nuremberg, for use at the Church of St. Egidien. Commissioned by Nuremberg city council; prepared under direction of Friedrich Lindner (ca. 1542-1597), cantor at St. Egidien, and Hieronymus Paumgartner, Jr., council administrator for church affairs. Later passed to von Tucher family of Nuremberg, who placed it in Germanisches Nationalmuseum following Franco-Prussian War. Returned to von Tucher family in 1877, but reacquired by Museum in 1885.

Original covers of light brown tooled leather over wooden boards, with brass clasps, edges, and bosses. Front covers stamped with letter 'Q' and medallion incorporating arms of city of Nuremberg and arms of Paumgartner family. Back covers stamped with representation of St. Egidien ministering to a wounded roe.
