General Description

An Altus partbook from a set originally of 4. Copied by three scribes (ff. 1-42v; ff. 43-76; ff. 76-89v), probably in Florence. Many concordances withBolC Q21.

Nothing is known of its provenance before its was acquired by Laurence C. Witten II from the Paris bookseller Arthur Rau in 1956; presented to Yale University Music Library in 1957.

Rebound in original covers of brown morocco leather over boards, tooled in gold with ornamental designs and voice designation 'ALTVS'; now kept in modern blue cardboard box. The biniding may be Bolognese of Venetian (Fenlon/Haar)
