General Description

Original material on ff. 2'-6, 7'-11, 15'-19, and 22' later erased and replaced with music, copied by Petrus Hedus (1427-1504), associated with Brotherhood of S. Maria de' Battuti in Pordenone; Hedus also wrote ParisBNI 2104 (JepI). Copied in Pordenone, for use by Brotherhood of S. Maria de' Battuti. Later owned by Vincenzo Joppi, librarian of Biblioteca Comunale, Udine; passed to Biblioteca Comunale after Joppi's death.

RISM Description

RISM B/IV 5: XVe-XVIe s. 27ff. Parchemin 260 x 188 mm. Foliotation ancienne. Les ff. 2, 7, 20v, 26 à 27v sont blancs (l'ancien texte ayant été gratté). Notation mesurée blanche. 6 portées par p. Reliure carton moderne portant sur une étiquette: «Msso Pietro Edo Poesie sacre con musica autografa del 1495.»

Ce ms. est en grande partie un palimpseste qui ne contenait primitivement que des comptes d'église jusqu'à l'année 1605, que l'on trouve encore aux ff. 1-1v, 6v, 11v-15, 21-22, 23, 24-25v. Aux ff. 19v à 20 et 23v à 24 sont copiées des laude sans musique. Sur certains des ff. lavés, le poète musicien Pietro Capretto (ou Hedus) a copié 13 laude de sa composition, quelquefois assorties de la date: f. 5 P. Hedus 1494; f. 20 1495 à la fin d'une lauda sans musique; f. 23v 1501 nonis septembris P. Hedus. D'après l'ancien bibliothécaire de la Bibl. Comunale, Vincenzo Joppi, premier possesseur connu du ms. (dont il donne une description sommaire sur le f. limin, ajouté), Hedus (1427-1504) était chapelain de la «Fraterna di S. Maria de' Battuti» de Pordenone, à l'usage de laquelle ses laude étaient destinées. Il semble qu'on puisse l'identifier avec le «Presbyter P. del Zocholo (del Zocul) de portunaonis» dont on trouve un Verbum caro dans le ms. GB-Ob 213, d'origine vénitienne. Dans son analyse musicale des laude du ms., G. Cattin a montré que seules les parties de Sup. et de T suivent les lois d'un contrepoint techniquement correct, les 2 autres vx. révélant au contraire de nombreuses erreurs qui rendent impossible une exécution à 4 vx., ce qui permet de supposer que les 2vx. inférieures auraieni été ajoutées plus tard à des laude à 2 vx. avec Sup. et T seult., sans qu'il soil possible de préciser, si l'on admet cette composition en deux temps, ce qui revient à Capretto.

Ca. 1494-1501 (dates 1494, 1495, 1501 in material added by Hedus); accounts continue into early 17th century. Copied in Pordenone, for use by Brotherhood of S. Maria de' Battuti. Later owned by Vincenzo Joppi, librarian of Biblioteca Comunale, Udine; passed to Biblioteca Comunale after Joppi's death.
