Copied by two main scribes (ff. 5'-49'; ff. 50'-65), with later additions (ff. 65'-69) in a different hand. Some pieces have text incipits only. Repertorial connections with VienNB Mus. 18832. Probably copied in Low Countries (Rifkin, based on script); German pieces perhaps added in Augsburg (RRMR). Possibly belonged to Johann Heinrich Herwart (1520-83) of Augsburg. Herwart collection purchased by Wilhelm V, Duke of Bavaria, in 1585; placed in court library at Munich, whose holdings formed foundation of present Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
