General Description

Composite of several originally separate fascicles assembled and bound in late 16th or early 17th century. First gathering is misbound, and belongs at beginning of ModD 10.

The scribe of ff. 1-8' (misbound gathering) also copied ModD 10, ff. 7'-34' of ModD 11, and parts of ModD 3 and ModD 9. A second scribe copied ff. 9'-22 (Jaquet psalms); third scribe copied ff. 23'-34 (Requiem Mass). Remaining music copied by Orazio Vecchi (cf. Tav. IX of RoncCM), whose hand also appears in ModD 9 and ModD 11. Copied in Modena, for use by the cathedral choir.

Identified the mass settings at start of MS (fols. 1-8v) as being from the 'Missa O genitrix gloriosa' by Jean Richafort, pointing out that a fragment of the Agnus Dei II from the same mass is found at the start of I-MOd MS Mus. X.
