4 paper partbooks (D-i + 49 + i folios, A-i + 51 + i, T-i + 48 + i, B-i + 50 + i), 178 x 248. Several original folios now missing from each book. New pencil foliation in each book; original ink foliation, 1-54, in B (ff. 4-5, 8, 27 now missing). Original covers of white parchment over paper, inscribed with "S. Barbara," voice designation, and "Hini a.4." Incomplete original index on back flyleaf of A book lists pieces in order of appearance, with liturgical rubrics.
Two layers, each copied by a different hand; scribe of second layer (texts and initials only?) possibly Francesco Sforza, Marchese di Varzi (1562-1624), an ecclesiastical dignitary at the Church of Santa Barbara in Mantua; Sforza also copied MilC 167, MilC 168, and several other manuscripts not within scope of this catalogue (see CrawFS). Staff height 12 (both layers). Small inked initials in first layer; second layer has larger inked calligraphic initials in red, blue, and brown, similar to those in MilC 167 and MilC 168. Two watermarks, neither in Briquet: (1) crown; (2) sun (flyleaves only). Many concordances with MilC 168.
Late 16th century. Copied in Mantua, for use at the Church of Santa Barbara (the Gonzaga ducal chapel). Further on Santa Barbara collection under MilC 12.
