General Description

A single Altus partbook. Contains Anglican service music (whole services or parts thereof) and anthems (or sections of anthems). Copied by a single scribe (Adrian Batten? - see MorehS and ClarkAB), except for last piece (Service by Child). Possibly copied at St. Paul's Cathedral in London (MorehS). Inscription on last flyleaf mentions Edward Newton as owner in 1732; names of other members of Newton family (John and Jane) on f. 11. Purchased by the British Museum at a Puttick's sale in 1872.
