General Description

A single Bassus partbook from a set originally of 4 volumes. Copied by one main scribe, who also wrote BolC Q26 (Rifkin); textless fragments on original ff. 60-61' are later additions in a different hand. Copied in Low Countries. Acquired by present library in 1942 from estate of a Rector Gonthier, of Wilrijk (near Antwerp).

Original leather covers tooled in gold front and back with identical ornamental designs; string ties remain. Inscription on front cover: 'Bassus / a.4'; on back cover: 'A.D. 1566.'
