General Description

The Masses and Lamentations were copied by a single scribe, possibly Dom Francisco de Santa Maria; the motets were added at the end by a different scribe. From the monastery of Santa Cruz, in Coimbra.

Foliation

Original ink foliation, 2–49; twenty-eight originally unnumbered folios have been bound between 23 and 24. Modern pencil foliation from the end of the first section of original foliation onwards, 24–85. (Census describes both systems of foliation incorrectly, stating that the modern folio numbers begin at 2 (rather than 24) and that the original ink foliation is 1–23 and 25–49.)

Santa Maria-1, anon-12

i + 84 + i paper folios, 580 x 420. Modern pencil foliation, 2-85; partial original ink foliation, 1-23 and 25-49. Covers of light brown tooled leather, old but not original, similar to those of CoimU 2 and CoimU 9. The Masses and Lamentations were copied by a single scribe; the motets were added at the end by a different scribe. Various types of initials: some black calligraphic, some block red, some small but elaborate calligraphic in red.
