General Description

The Masses were copied by a single scribe; each of the hymns is in a different hand (William McMurtry). The scribe who wrote ff. 94'-96 also wrote ff. 58-61 in BolSP 21; and the scribe of ff. 99'-102 also wrote the 4vv Magnificat in BolSP 36. Copied and used at San Petronio in Bologna.

102 paper folios, 575 x 415. Ink foliation, possibly original. Covers from ca. 1957, when the manuscript was restored. No index. The Masses were copied by a single scribe; each of the hymns is in a different hand (William McMurtry). Inked calligraphic initials; some folios have illuminated ornamental borders.

Mid-16th century. Copied and used at San Petronio in Bologna.

Vol 4

Physical: ii + 100 + ii paper folios, 575 x 415. First two original folios now missing. Modern foliation, 1-102, on upper right rectos, includes modern flyleaves at front. Rebound in modern covers ca. 1957. No index. Masses copied by a single scribe. Hymns are later additions by three other scribes; one of these also wrote ff. 58-61 of BolSP 21, another also wrote portions of BolSP 36-7. Inked calligraphic initials; a few openings have illuminated borders.

Date: Second quarter of 16th century.
