General Description

A Discantus partbook from a set originally of three volumes, each consisting of the prints RISM 189, 1539/2, 1545/5, and 1539/14, with manuscript additions. Copied by one main scribe and three additional scribes. Probably of east central German origin.

3 paper partbooks (D-60 folios, A-53, B-44), 150 x 204, bound together with the following prints: RISM 189, 1539/2, 1539/14, and 1545/5. Tooled leather covers. Copied mostly by three scribes, with one additional entry on the inside front cover and flyleaf in another hand.

Date 1550 on cover.

Modern pencil foliation in manuscript sections—D: 1-60; A: 1-53; B: 1-44. Original ink numbering of first five Masses, I-V; other pieces unnumbered. Original covers of white leather tooled with decorative designs, voice designations, and date "1550"; metal clasps. No index. Copied by one main scribe and three additional scribes. Staff height 12. No initials or decoration. Watermark resembles Briquet #6434; same mark also found in BerlPS 40192.
