Physical Description
Many folios in very poor condition due to severe ink corrosion; some music now illegible.
Binding
Covers of medium brown leather over boards, blind tooled with decorative borders and central diamond motif; brass clasps, studs, and bosses. Covers date from 18th century (LlorCS), but decoration imitates earlier style; see VatS 13 for other manuscripts with similar bindings.
Watermark
crossed arrows surmounted by six-pointed star (not in Briquet; see BraunerP for other manuscripts with same mark).

Decoration
Illuminated miniatures, initials, and borders on ff. 3'-4 are work of Vincent Raymond (LlorM); other folios have inked calligraphic initials. Coat of arms of Pope Paul III (1468-1549) and inscription 'PAULUS III PONTIFEX MAX. ANNO V.' on ff. 3'-4; shield of Costanzo Festa at bottom of f. 4, with composer's name below.

Le 2e f. limin, les ff. 1, 92v, 195v sont blancs. Notation mesurée blanche. 10 portées par p. Au 1er f. limin. Table du ms. Grandes initiales enluminées par Vincent Raymond aux ff. lv et 2. Reliure du XVIII s.
Pour ce ms. copié par Johannes Parvus, la figure de Paul III accompagnée de l'inscription: «Paulus III Pont. Max. Anno V.» dans les capitales du Sup. et du B au f. 1v, date la copie de 1539. Alors que Kast [MGG XI, col. 751 f] le considérait comme perdu pour la recherche, une restauration récente en a rendu la lecture moins difficile, mais le dépouillement suivant datant de l'état antérieur du ms., les incipit musicaux ont été rétablis d'après d'autres sources. On a suivi la politique de A. Main et de A. Seay qui considèrent que toutes les pièces sont de Costanzo Festa.
