RISM Description

RISM BIV/4: 15.

[Translation: RISM BIV / 4: 15th Century, 66 sheets of paper, 296 x 201 mm. Modern foliation of f. 1-66. Each page usually contains 10 four-or five-line staves with older and newer Bohemian and Gothic chant notation, and isolated black mensural of the early 15th Century - Binding: 19th Century; yellow leather with gilded clasps (Original binding before 1895: wooden boards covered with parchment).

This manuscript, incomplete at the beginning and end, is a Gradual-Kantional and is mainly Mass chant and hymns and songs in Latin, English and German. It probably originated from Nagyszombat (modern, Trnava). It was written in the first half of the 15th Century by different hands. The concordance with D-TR322 is remarkable. In the 16th Century the manuscript was in the possession of the family Révay who, after the Battle of Mohács, moved to Upper Hungary. In the 19th Century, the manuscript belonged to the archaeologist Fl. Romer, who donated it to the Hungarian National Library as a gift in 1866.

Contents: f. 2-9v Dorothea Office f. 10-15 St. John Passion and Liber generationis; Preface f. 16-22, f. 24-27 Lamentation, f. 28-42v hymns (some with Latin-English text ); f. 43-47 Lamentation and Oratio Jeremiae f. 48V-50 see Incipit list f. 50v-53 Czech and Latin chants, f. 55V-65V Kyriale.]
