General Description

A liturgical book containing mostly monophonic music; the polyphonic piece is on ff. 157-158'. One of the scribes was probably Johannes Braittenstain. Originated in southern Germany. Formerly belonged to Johannes Braittenstain, a Hopfferbach clergyman who belonged to the Kempten Monastery.

RISM BIV/3: Seit 1945 verschollen; Film im Musikwissenschaftlichen Seminar der Universität Erlangen.

  1. Jh.; 362 Blätter Papier + je 1 Vorsatz- und Nachstoßblatt, 207 x 154 mm. Moderne Foliierung von f. 1-362; originale Foliierung von f. 1-276 (einige Blätter fehlen). Je Seite bis zu 8 Vier- oder seltener Fünfliniensysteme mit gotischer Choral- oder Quadratnotation (vereinzelt Mensuralnotation). - Einband: 16. Jh.; mit Schweinsleder überzogene Holzdeckel, zwei Schließen.

Diese süddeutsche Handschrift aus der Mitte des 16. Jh. (ca. zwischen 1556 und 1565) stellt eine Sammlung verschiedener Ausschnitte aus dem Graduale und dem Antiphonar dar. Eingestreut sind zahlreiche deutsche Kirchenlieder. Ehemaliger Besitzer (und teilweise wohl auch Schreiber) der Handschrift war Johannes Braittenstain, Pfarrer in Hopfferbach (zum Kloster Kempten gehörig).
