General Description

A Bohemian Graduale – considered one of the most outstanding documents of protestant origin. It was written by Matous Ornys z Lindperka for the protestant church in Třebenice. All texts are Czech. The contents are p. 1-182 Ordinaries; p. 183-568 Mass Propers; p. 569-902 sequences; p. 903-950 Patrem. The only polyphonic pieces are two Sanctus.

RISM BIV/3: 16. Jh.; 475 Blätter Pergament, 580 x 385 mm. Moderne Pag. von p. 1-950; originale Foliierung von f. a I-XX bis o XXI (= moderne p. 12-560). Je Seite meist 8 rote Fünfliniensysteme mit böhmischer Choralnotation und vereinzelt schwarzer und weißer Mensuralnotation - Einband: 16. Jh.; mit weißem Leder überzogene Holzdeckel, Beschläge.

Diese prachtvoll illuminierte Handschrift ist ein böhmisches Graduale, das zu den kunsthistorisch hervorragendsten Denkmälern utraquistischer Herkunft gehört. Geschrieben wurde es zwischen 1574 und 1583 von Matous Ornys z Lindperka für die utraquistische Kirche in Třebenice. An mehrstimmigen Stücken finden sich nur zwei Sanctus.

Usually with 8 red five-line staves per page, Bohemian choral notation and occasionally black and white mensural. Binding: 16th century, with a white leather-covered wooden boards, fittings.

This beautifully illuminated manuscript is a Bohemian Graduale, and among the most outstanding artistic heritage of protestant origin. It was written from 1574 to 1583 by Matous Ornys z Lindperka for the protestant church in Třebenice. The only polyphonic pieces are two Sanctus.
