General Description

Originally written for the Benedictine Abbey of St. Gall (from P. Joachim Cuontz † 1515) Abbot of St. Francis of Gaisberg (see 10v and f. 85v). Between 10 and 29 handwritten notes are inserted with a printed Hymnar (f. 11-28). ff. 1v and 29v were originally a printed sheet of music. There are only two polyphonic pieces. Contents: f. 1-10 sequences, Liber generationis, proper and ordinary chants (f. 4v-8r empty); f. 11-28 Hymnar (incunabula), f. 30-83 Ordinary (partly troped); f. 84-405 Sequentiary (Prosarium), f. 405v-408r blank, f. 408v-410 Benedicamus, Ite missa est and incomplete Kyrie and Sanctus.

RISM Description

RISM BIV/3: 16. Jh.; 409 Blätter Papier + 2 jüngere Vorsatz- und l Nachstoßblass, 410 x 270 mm. Jüngere (im folgenden stets verwandte) Foliierung von f. 1-140; originale Foliierung von f. 1-377 (= jüngere Foliierung von f. 30-410). Je Seite 9 (f. 30-369) oder 12 (f. 1-10, 370ff.) rote Fünfliniensysteme mit gotischer Choralnotation (zum Teil mit mensuralen Elementen). - Einband: 16. Jh.; mit braunem Schweinsleder überzogene Holzdeckel, Blindpressung, Schließe; restauriert 1955.

Diese aus der Benediktinerabtei St. Gallen stammende Handschrift wurde zwischen 1507 und 1514 von P. Joachim Cuontz († 1515) für Abt Franz von Gaisberg geschrieben (vergleiche f. 10v und 85v). Zwischen f. 10 und 29 ist ein gedrucktes Hymnar mit handgeschriebenen Noten eingefügt (f. 11-28). Auf f. 1v und 29v je ein gedrucktes Notenblatt. Mehrstimmig sind nur 2 Stücke.

Inhalt: f. 1-10 Sequenzen, Liber generationis, Propriums- und Ordinariumsgesänge (f. 4v-8r leer); f. 11-28 Hymnar (Inkunabel); f. 30-83 Ordinarium (zum Teil tropiert); f. 84-405 Sequentiar (Prosarium); f. 405v-408r leer; f. 408v-410 Benedicamus, Ite missa est sowie nachgetragene Kyrie und Sanctus.
