RISM Description

RISM B/IV 4: 13./14.

Inhalt: 1. Teil: f. 1-55r Proprium; f. 55v-58 Kyriale; f. 59r-76v Sequenzen; f. 77r/v Sanctus-Tropus. - 2. Teil: f. 78r-82v Benedicamus-Sammlung; f. 83r-85v zum Teil gemischtsprachige Weihnachtslieder; f. 86-99 Kyriale (4 Ordinariumszyklen).

[Translation] 99 parchment leaves (f. 95-97 only fragmentarily preserved), 298 x 195 mm. Modern foliation 1-99; old foliation of f. XXXII-CIV (= modern f. 1-65). Until f. 77: 12 four-line systems per page with red F-line and neumatic notation; from f. 78: 9 red four-line systems with square notation (f. 83-85 partially mensural elements). Binding: modern, colorful, exaggerated cardboard cover with parchment back.

This manuscript was discovered by F. Ll. Harrison in 1963 and consists of two different parts: Part 1 f. 1-77, is a Graduale of the 13th Century (early, incomplete), Part 2 f. 78-99 is closely related to I-AO17 (perhaps a partial copy of I-AO17). In the polyphonic pieces, the upper parts are notated with black marks and red text, whereas the bottom notes are notated with red and black text is displayed. Harrison dated this part of the handwriting to be from the middle of the 14th Century, Fischer to the late 14th and probably a little later than I-AO17. In any case, this manuscript also came from Aosta - perhaps from the cathedral.

Contents: Part 1: f. 1-55r proprium; f. 55v-58 Kyriale; f. 59r-76v sequences; f. 77r / v Sanctus-Tropes. - Part 2: f. 78r-82v Benedicamus collection; f. 83r-85v bilingual Christmas carols, f. 86-99 Kyriale (4 ordinary cycles). f. 143v-145 Marian antiphons.
