General Description

The last original folio was discovered in a box of fragments in the B.G.U.C.

Kiel 2003 identifies the work of Alamire scribe 'S' in this manuscript; and rejects Rees 1995's identification of that scribe with (& therefore the production of this ms by) Philippus de Spina.

Owen Rees, 2010
Physical Description

The upper and outer edges of the folios have been trimmed. At least eight folios are missing.

Owen Rees, 2010
Binding

The book was re-bound at some time between 1937 and 1941, using old covers similar to those employed in the re-binding of MM 3, MM 6, MM 7, MM 8, MM 9, MM 26, and MM 44.

Bauldeweyn-2, (Hesdin/Willaert)-1, La Rue-2, La Rue/(Josquin)-1, Moulu [Petrus Moussue]-1, Mouton-3, Willaert-1, anon-1

i + 202 + i paper folios, 565 x 380. Modern pencil foliation, 1-202; many folios were lost, at various places in the manuscript, before this foliation was entered. Covers of light brown tooled leather, old but not original, similar to those of CoimU 3 and CoimU 9. No index. Copied by a single scribe. Inked calligraphic initials; some initials, rubrics, and portions of text are in red. Watermark (Gothic "P" with four-leaf clover; see Briquet #8586-8749) has the same general design as some watermarks found in the paper manuscripts of the Netherlands court complex (Kellman).

After 1530 (inscription on f. 157': "Noel Balduwin pie memorie"). Judging from its general appearance and the watermark, the manuscript may have been copied in the Netherlands, but it is not the work of any of the known Netherlands court scribes (Kellman).
