General Description

Apparently the only surviving remnants of a musical manuscript originally containing at least 36 folios. Apart from monophonic sacred music on ff. XXI-XXII (in chant notation) and the blank staves on f. XXII', there are discantus parts for polyphonic pieces on all remaining folios, copied by a single scribe. Probably copied in Maastricht, as personal collection of minstrel employed by the town (WaesM). Original manuscript disassembled c. 1500; some folios used as flyleaves for register of legal documents kept by the court of aldermen for the town of Breust (near Maastricht). Register later came to Rijksarchief in Maastricht, where it received call number '169/1.' Flyleaves with music removed in early 20th century; now preserved as separate item.
