General Description

Copied by one main scribe, probably Gaspar Fernandes, chapelmaster and organist at Guatemala Cathedral 1599-1606, and at Puebla Cathedral 1606-29; same scribe also wrote ff. 37'-39' of PueblaC 2, GuatC 2, and GuatC 4. Several folios at beginning and end, in a different hand, may be later additions to main corpus or replacements for worn original folios. Copied in Puebla, for use by cathedral choir (BarwickS).

124 paper folios, ca. 560 x 375. Original ink foliation, 1-4 (numbers on ff. 3-4 obliterated due to frayed corners) + 1-110 (last 10 folios unnumbered). Original covers of leather over boards. Original index on f. [Ill] groups pieces alphabetically by first letter of text or title, with subgrouping by number of voices. Copied by one main scribe, who also wrote ff. 37'-39' of PueblaC 2. Several folios at beginning and end, in a different hand, may be later additions to main corpus or replacements for worn original folios. Composers: Add "(Anton de España)-1"; change "Bermudes-4" to "Bermudes -5"; change "Franco-2" to "Franco-5"; change "Morales-1" to "Morales/ Palestrina-1 "; change "anon-22" to "anon-17."
