General Note
The motet was written in 1546 on the occasion of the liberation of Tileman von Gunderode, Chancellor of Landgrave Philipp of Hesse, by Maximilian of Bueren. Gunderode (1512-1550) was made Chancellor in 1545; he accompanied Philipp to Halle when he had to make atonement before Emperor Charles V, and accompanied the Landgrave into captivity, but returned to Hesse in the autumn.
