General Description

A Bassus partbook. A compendium of most of the anthems in DurC C2 and DurC C4, copied c. 1630, with later additions. Main layer copied by Toby Brookinge, who also wrote most of DurC C11, DurC C13, DurC C16, DurC E11a, and YorkM 29, parts of DurC C4, and some additions in DurC C8; later additions by one unidentified scribe who appears only in this source, and two other unidentified scribes: (1) also made additions in DurC C1; (2) also wrote portions of DurC C15 and made additions in DurC C2, DurC C4, and DurC C8 (Brian Crosby). Copied in Durham, perhaps for ecclesiastical official at Durham Cathedral, or for use by cathedral choir.
