General Description

Polyphony on ff. 86'-93 and ff. 94'-98', copied by one main scribe, with later additions by one or two other hands. Some pieces have text incipits only; texts of French pieces crossed out by later hand. Main layer presumably copied in France or Low Countries, but manuscript possibly in Italy at one time, judging from later additions. Apparently belonged to Armand Jean du Plessis, Cardinal de Richelieu (1585-1642); later passed to Bibliothèque Nationale.
